Podcast: Document Security In Healthcare

Source: Xerox And Equitrac

In this podcast, Dale Johnson, technical marketing manager for Xerox, and Noel O'Dwyer, VP of marketing and strategic alliances for Equitrac Corporation talk to Health IT Outcomes's Editor In Chief Ken Congdon about the gaps in document security that currently exist in most healthcare facilities and steps that can be taken to gain better control of your paper-based workflows through use of document and print management technologies. In response to the question, "Can you provide some examples of how hard copy information can be handled more securely?", Johnson says "I'll give you one simple example. If I need to print something for a patient that contains PHI information, there's a chance that someone could, in fact, pick up my print. The problem with that is that document is at that point out of my control. There are many ways to secure the access to this document and not have it just sitting around on the printer. I could simply print it using Secure Print and then walk up to the device and enter my pin code that was associated with the job, and it would print immediately."
