CynergisTek CEO To Present On HIPAA And HITECH Security Requirements At UTINFOSEC Summer 2012 Conference

WHAT: CynergisTek, an authority in enterprise security solutions and services for healthcare organizations, recently announced that its CEO, Mac McMillan, will present an educational session on "HIPAA/HITECH Security Requirements" at the University of Texas Systemwide Information Security Compliance (UTINFOSEC) summer 2012 conference. McMillan was selected to lead the presentation due to his 30-plus years in IT security, as well as his position as chair of the HIMSS Privacy and Security Policy Task Force and CynergisTek's recent role providing advisory services to one of the first 20 organizations selected for the pilot phase of the OCR HIPAA Audit Program. 

McMillan's presentation will provide attendees with a foundational understanding of HIPAA and HITECH requirements and best practices for minimizing privacy and security risk. Attendees will also be offered insights into recent trends in HIPAA enforcement, including an inside perspective on the OCR Audit Program and proven strategies for audit preparation and reaction.

The UTINFOSEC function provides leadership and oversight to ensure that the University of Texas System and each of its institutions, including nine universities and six health institutions, establishes and maintains effective information security programs and policies.

WHO: Mac McMillan, CISM and President/CEO of CynergisTek, Chair of the HIMSS Privacy and Security Policy Task Force, has over 30 years of combined intelligence, risk management and security consulting experience. McMillan has worked in the healthcare industry since his retirement from the federal government in 2000 and has contributed to HFMA, HCCA, AHIA, AHIMA and HIMSS. He is the former Chair of the HIMSS Information Systems Security Working Group. In 2009 he joined the HIMSS Privacy and Security Steering Committee and was selected as its Chair from 2010-2011.
