EHR Incentive Programs are not experiencing the same levels of provider involvement in 2014 – or are projected to in 2015 – as they have in previous years, and that lag owes more to the requirements prescribed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) than the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) EHR certification efforts. While Meaningful Use (MU) may have hit a snag, ONC certification continues its march forward.

With that as a backdrop, the West Feliciana Parish Hospital (WFPH) announced its Imaging Department has partnered with the Avreo interWORKS to implement an EHR system for its Critical Access Hospital.

WFPH was looking to replace its existing RIS/PACS which required a solution providing enterprise-wide access to imaging and patient content while supporting the capability to deal with modern standards required by MU.

While searching for a solution, WFPH found Avreo interWORKS. It not only provided solutions for workflow and ease of use, but also achieved complete EHR Certification by meeting the new medical standards associated with MU. The hospital is taking advantage of Avreo's true web-based solution, granting them access to patient information anywhere without Java, Active X, or third party utilities.

interWORKS RIS/PACS is an enterprise-wide radiology workflow management within a user-friendly, web-based system. Its native single application, single database design unifies RIS, PACS, dictation, transcription, and report distribution into a singular system that encompasses all aspects of a hospital’s radiology workflow. Its WAN optimized, web-based connectivity ensures that radiologists, administrators, technologists, and other healthcare staff can securely and efficiently access data when needed.

Using the interWORKS RIS/PACS package, WFPH is expected to benefit from an increase in efficiency and productivity, while reducing costs at many points in the workflow. RIS capabilities including visit management, procedure preparations support patient-centric workflow while user-friendly results portal provides an additional avenue to deliver results and nurture relationships with referring physicians.

West Feliciana Parish Hospital is a full-service, 23-bed acute care medical surgical hospital. The hospital offers skilled nursing care and short-term hospital stays; a full lab; imaging, such as x-rays, MRI's, and CT scans; a variety of therapy services like physical, occupational, and speech; and 24/7 for emergencies.
