Cape Regional Medical Center Chooses Summit Provider Exchange To Connect With NJSHINE And Physician Offices

New Jersey Medical Center Tackling Bi-Directional Physician Office and HIE Integration

Cape Regional Medical Center, is currently implementing the Summit Provider Exchange technology solution in an effort to streamline its bi-directional physician office integration efforts and support collaboration with their New Jersey health information exchange (NJSHINE).

The 242 bed acute-care medical center located in New Jersey, serves the local population and more than 800,000 seasonal visitors with a variety of inpatient and outpatient services. With a strong commitment to providing the highest quality healthcare to the residents and visitors of Cape May County, Cape Regional Medical Center (CRMC) looked to provide their physicians with a system that would streamline their clinical integration efforts, allowing them quick access to critical data and the ability to leverage their existing systems.

Cape Regional currently leverages Siemens Soarian and Meditech in their acute care setting, while their physician based offices run Allscripts EMR. With three different disparate systems in play there was a growing need to tightly integrate the clinical exchange of data while providing an intuitive integration platform to support the ordering needs of their physician population. Bi-directional order integration presents many challenges which prompted CRMC to evaluate technology offerings to streamline these efforts.

Summit Provider Exchange will enable CRMC to quickly process and accept orders inbound from their physician offices and in turn route critical results back. Bi-directional orders and results will include LAB, MIC, BBK, PTH and RAD. The Summit PE platform provides patient matching capabilities and in the event of a discrepancy, will flag the order and place into a hold queue. From there, end users are able to match orders to patients using an intuitive click-to-match function. This process helps to avoid the pitfalls of duplicate patients, and eliminate unnecessary communications back to physician offices.

By implementing Summit Provider Exchange, CRMC will not only be able to facilitate bi-directional integration with physician offices and clinics, but will also be able to successfully communicate with their NJSHINE HIE. NJSHINE connects five acute care hospitals with over 400 health providers and 22 practices across seven counties of southern New Jersey. This HIE collaboration enables providers and patients to acquire pertinent patient information such as medical history, allergies and test results, thus enabling more informed patient care.

"Summit Healthcare is thrilled to support Cape Regional Medical Center as they embark on the next phase of their integration strategy," said Ted Rossi, CEO, Summit Healthcare. "We look forward to working closely with them as they implement the Summit Provider Exchange solution."

"The need for a tighter, more controlled integration platform quickly became evident as our integration needs expanded," said Richard Wheatly, Chief Information Officer, Cape Regional Medical Center. "The Summit Provider Exchange solution will allow us to fulfill our commitment to integrating with our physician practices and our regional HIE by providing tighter integration and ultimately providing our patients with an even higher level of care. We look forward to this new chapter of clinical data exchange and commitment to collaboration.
