Canopy Partners To Store Radiology Images For Randolph Hospital

Expands one of the nation’s first region-wide radiology archives
• Improves patient care and lowers costs by broadening physician access to imaging data

Recently Canopy Partners announced that Randolph Hospital in Asheboro is joining the company’s growing regional database of archived radiology images. The move will make diagnostic tests performed at the hospital more readily accessible to thousands of area physicians.

The database – called the “Canopy Regional Imaging Timeline” – is one of the first region-wide repositories of radiology study images in the nation, with more than 600,000 imaging studies stored annually. It enables physicians at any participating facility to log into a single system to review tests previously performed for their patient as part of the continuum of care.

In addition to Randolph Hospital, Canopy Partners stores study images for Alliance Urology, Chatham Hospital, five hospitals in the Cone Health network, Cone Health physician practices, Eagle Physicians, Greensboro Imaging, Greensboro Radiology, and Vanguard Brain and Spine Specialists. Many additional facilities across the region use the Canopy platform for short-term storage of diagnostic studies for initial physician review.

“When studies are stored in isolated silos, physicians may be unaware of tests already performed,” says Stephen Willis, Canopy Partners CIO. “A region-wide database allows practitioners to better coordinate care across a variety of healthcare facilities and practices. They can avoid unnecessary repetition of tests and lower costs, while improving patient care.”

Canopy Regional Imaging Timeline is built on an open, standards-based medical image and information management platform from Philips IntelliSpace. Virtually any type of digital imaging data can be stored, regardless of the type of system used to create it. A team of more than two dozen Canopy specialists supports the service, including software developers, system administrators and help desk personnel.

The new Randolph Hospital contract builds on a longstanding relationship with Canopy Partners for other types of healthcare management services, including voice recognition capabilities, business analytics and information technology support.

“Randolph Hospital is focused on partnering with our physicians and others to ensure that our patients receive the right care, at the right time and in the right place,” said Steve Eblin, CEO of Randolph Hospital.  “This new partnership with Canopy Partners is another step toward that end. We very much look forward to working with them for the benefit of our mutual patients.”
