Improved care coordination, population health capabilities expected outcomes of EHR implementation at newly-acquired facility

Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital (PIH) Health, of Whittier, CA, has selected Allscripts Sunrise EHR for its newly acquired hospital, PIH Health Hospital – Downey, and has extended its enterprise-wide hosting and managed services contract with Allscripts through 2020. The solution is expected to improve care coordination and population health capabilities throughout the integrated network.

Serving more than 1.5 million residents in the Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Gabriel Valley regions, PIH Health is a nonprofit healthcare system that was recognized in 2013 by Truven Health Analytics as a 100 Top Hospitals award recipient. Its 400-bed flagship facility, PIH Health Hospital – Whittier, was recently joined by 199-bed PIH Health Hospital – Downey (formerly Downey Regional Medical Center) in promoting best practices in patient care and best possible patient outcomes. The health delivery network includes Bright Health Physicians, a 330+ multispecialty medical group, outpatient facilities, home health and hospice care, and heart, cancer, and emergency services. As a missions-based healthcare system, PIH Health invests millions each year in community education and in the delivery of free or low-cost healthcare to those who need it most.

Named to Hospital & Health Networks 2013 Most Wired Survey, PIH Health is extending its existing relationship with Allscripts. In addition to the Downey implementation, the system will deploy much of the Allscripts Acute and Ambulatory products to include Sunrise, Enterprise, dbMotion, FollowMyHealth patient portal, and Care Management solutions and is extending its outsourcing, hosting, and services contract. “Allscripts solutions are integrated, interoperable, and innovative,” said Davis Lee, M.D., chief medical information officer of PIH Health. “Partnering with Allscripts helps us with the demands of the evolving regulatory, population health, and accountable care requirements and also provides us with the tools to exceed our care standards and meet our business goals.”

Allscripts is expected to gain $120 million in increased revenue due to the PIH Health contract. “PIH Health is a valued long-term partner and with a complete deployment of Allscripts solutions portfolio and depth of services, will be a model for population health management,” said Paul M. Black, president and CEO of Allscripts. “We are delighted that PIH Health has decided to extend and grow their relationship with Allscripts.”
