Bristol Hospital Expands Partnership With Summit Healthcare To Address Integration Needs

Connecticut hospital to implement Summit Express Connect interface engine technology

Summit Healthcare, a leading provider of healthcare system integration and workflow automation solutions, recently expanded its partnership with Bristol Hospital, by selecting the Summit Express Connect interface engine to meet their integration needs. They have also selected the Summit Monitoring Device Solution to address the unique complexities that arise with device integration.

Bristol Hospital, a multi-specialty facility based in Bristol, Connecticut, has a well-established relationship with Summit Healthcare and has been leveraging the Summit Scripting Toolkit for the past year to address workflow automation. When looking to address their integration strategy, they once again evaluated Summit Healthcare as vendor partner that could meet not only their automation needs but also their growing integration needs. After a rigorous evaluation process, the hospital's familiarity with Summit Healthcare, and Summit Healthcare's experience in integrating systems, proved to be some key driving factors to expanding the partnership.

Summit Express Connect is an industry-leading interface engine technology platform that establishes a strong foundation for internal and external system integration. The interface engine from Summit Healthcare provides a variety of advanced capabilities, including the ability to remove point-to-point integration, cut down on integration costs and enable more efficient integration processes. Bristol Hospital will be connecting their HIS to over thirteen ancillary systems from pharmacy to transcription, obstetrics to electronic forms. By leveraging interface engine technology they can easily see a return on investment through elimination of duplicate interface purchases and maintenance costs. Summit Express Connect can also be their integration foundation for future strategies such as meaningful use, physician EMR integration or HIE connectivity.

Medical device integration can pose a major challenge within HCIS systems because they often overwhelm the infrastructure with a constant stream of data. In some instances, an HCIS will refuse data input from monitoring devices because it is sent without solicitation. Scenarios as mentioned above posed continuous challenges for Bristol Hospital and were an area to be addressed when developing their integration strategy. In working with past clients Summit Healthcare developed a specific solution to address the challenges listed above. The Summit Monitoring Device Solution is emerging as a key option for many hospitals and can easily address the complexities seen with monitoring devices ensuring effective and strategic data sharing.

"When the time came to upgrade our interface engine, we decided to take a closer look at the best solution possible," said Dave Rackliffe, CIO and Assistant Vice President, Bristol Hospital. "After careful analysis, Summit Healthcare emerged as the best option. Their familiarity with our HIS, strong technology platform and capacity to provide a holistic integration solution made them a clear choice, since finding a single-vendor solution was a priority."

"We are proud to expand our relationship with Bristol Hospital," said Ted Rossi, CEO, Summit Healthcare. "Extending initial relationships with customers is something we at Summit Healthcare strive to accomplish. Providing a single vendor approach to meeting the integration and automation needs of hospitals continues to drive our company strategy, product and solution development. We look forward to working with Bristol Hospital as they work to meet their integration goals."
