BayCare Health System Selects Medicity To Establish Community Connectivity And Health Information Exchange In Tampa Bay

10-hospital health system to deploy Medicity HIE solutions as foundation for improving care quality, efficiency and patient safety

Medicity, the industry standard for health information exchange (HIE), announced recently that BayCare Health System selected its HIE solutions to assist in providing coordinated health care in the Tampa Bay area. This technology investment is designed to enable community-wide HIE and to prepare for the upcoming requirements of health care reform.

"We have selected Medicity to help us with the coordination and exchange of clinical information across the continuum of patient care," said Tim Thompson, senior vice president, Chief Information Officer, BayCare Health System. "Medicity's advanced solutions will allow us to connect with community clinicians throughout the Tampa Bay area and to share patient data that will assist us with meeting the new requirements of health care reform."

The BayCare HIE will be comprised of affiliated and unaffiliated physicians, home care and other health care providers who will work together to enhance the quality and cost-effectiveness of care.

"We want to make it easy for referring physicians and other members of the health care community in Tampa Bay to securely exchange health information with us anytime, anywhere," Thompson said. "Our HIE will help eligible providers qualify for Meaningful Use incentives, improve utilization of medical services and enhance patient outcomes."

Under the first phase of its project, BayCare will deploy Medicity's Novo Grid to support bi-directional exchange of real-time clinical, financial and demographic data with physician offices. The health system will install ProAccess Community to facilitate a single point of web-based access to a community health record and MediTrust Cloud Services to locate, match and aggregate records across the HIE. McKesson's Practice Partners, Allscripts and GE Centricity are among the first EHR applications that the HIE will integrate.

"We are excited to partner with BayCare in navigating the rapidly changing health care landscape and to build upon its clinical, business and technological leadership," said Brent Dover, Medicity's President. "We look forward to executing the health system's pioneering vision of connectivity and providing personalized and accountable care on the west-central coast of Florida."
