Baycare Health Partners And Baystate Health Select InterSystems HealthShare As Strategic Informatics Platform For Coordinating Community Engagement

InterSystems HealthShare Will Enable Baystate's & Baycare's Shared Vision for Collaborative Care Delivery Through Pioneer Valley Regional Health Information Exchange (PVIX)

InterSystems Corporation, a global leader in software for connected care, announced that Massachusetts-based Baycare Health Partners and Baystate Health have selected InterSystems HealthShare as their strategic informatics platform for an innovative, new regional health information exchange (HIE). Baycare Health Partners and Baystate Health have spearheaded the formation of the Pioneer Valley Health Information Exchange, or PVIX, which will rely on HealthShare to provide a "one patient, one record" view across hospitals, medical practices, health insurance payers, laboratories, and other healthcare institutions participating in Baycare's Pioneer Valley Accountable Care organization (PVAC) and across the western Massachusetts region.  PVIX will also serve as an onramp for the region to the Massachusetts statewide health information exchange.

In addition to using HealthShare as its strategic interoperability foundation for PVIX, Baystate Health will work with InterSystems to provide breakthrough applications for population management and community engagement. The engagement of patients in their own healthcare is a prominent goal of the Meaningful Use requirements in the federal EHR Incentive Program and is a key tenet of accountable care.

By participating in PVIX, medical practices and other healthcare providers in the region will help ensure they are well connected at each transition of care, that the health and wellness of the people of western Massachusetts are well-managed, that the highest quality and most cost-effective care is provided, and that patients are engaged in managing their health.

"Our partnership with InterSystems will enhance collaboration for Baystate Health, local and regional physician organizations, and hospital systems, and improve the quality of patient care and the overall experience for patients and caregivers. Community engagement is at the heart of our vision and the driving force behind many of our investments in healthcare technology," said Joel Vengco, Vice President and CIO, Baystate Health.

"Healthcare is undergoing a seismic shift from episodic care to continuous population management, and from provider-centric to patient-centric care," Vengco added. "Healthcare reform begins with information liquidity, which leads to knowledge and intelligence, eventually enabling the highest quality of care across the entire community. By effectively 'liberating' the data from information silos and creating true semantic interoperability, HealthShare will provide the platform to manage our patient population more proactively and make better decisions."

"By providing everyone in the healthcare continuum with the ability to both access and understand the widest range of patient data, and turning that data into knowledge and insight, InterSystems is helping forward-thinking healthcare providers achieve the promise of connected care and truly improve outcomes in their communities," said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning.
