Backus Hospital Recognized For Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model

The William W. Backus Hospital has achieved recognition for its implementation of electronic medical records, the hospital announced Monday.

Backus is one of only 6.7 percent of the more than 5,300 hospitals nationwide being tracked to reach Stage 6 of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Analytics EMR adoption model. There are only seven stages, which means the Backus Management Information System Department is only one stage away from being deemed an “advanced electronic patient record environment,” the hospital said in a news release.

This milestone comes after Backus was named a “Most Wired” hospital two years in a row.

“Just last week, the HIMSS organization interviewed representatives of the MIS Department to assess the depth of the hospital’s adoption of technology,” said Pam Muccilli, Backus vice president and chief information officer. “We are very proud and excited to be designated as achieving Stage 6 of EMR adoption.”

Backus President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Whitehead congratulated hospital staff for the achievement.

“It’s one thing to talk about an electronic medical record adoption model, but here at Backus we are on the cusp of truly having one,” he said. “It takes a lot of teamwork across many departments to make this happen. Thanks to everyone for their contributions.”
