Case Study: Arizona UMC Succeeds With Wireless Asset Tracking
Arizona University Medical Center (UMC) is at the forefront of a shift in healthcare practice — wireless tracking of medical equipment. UMC had to improve equipment management and utilization hospitalwide, reducing the time and cost associated with searching for and replacing assets that are lost, broken, or stockpiled. "RTLS (real-time location system) is a new technology for healthcare, but we are in it for the long-term value," says Jeff Schaefer, director of diagnostic and therapeutic services and the administrative lead on the project. "We have compelling reports on equipment movement, lack of movement, and utilization. UMC needed a way to save hundreds of thousands of dollars, because we have had to identify where and when equipment is lost or damaged."
