Amber And Kubat Pharmacies Join The Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII) For A Healthier Nebraska
Two Nebraska-owned pharmacies have become the first retail pharmacies in Nebraska to electronically exchange clinical patient information and medication history with healthcare providers in and around Nebraska. As part of NeHII, Nebraska's statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE), the pharmacies will have secure access to their customers most current and accurate medication history and information, allowing them to set new standards for patient safety and care.
Amber Pharmacy, a specialty pharmacy spanning across the U.S. will be using the exchange to improve its efforts in providing medications to patients with chronic diseases. Kubat Pharmacy, a long-standing retail pharmacy, also joining NeHII, has been doing business in Omaha and Fremont for the past 70 years and will be using the exchange to access complete patient drug lists which will improve care by reducing drug interactions.
"We are delighted to be the first pharmacy in the state of Nebraska to join the NeHII network," said Michael R. Agostino, R.Ph, President of Amber Pharmacy. "Amber Pharmacy has been in the forefront of providing prescription services to the transplant community for almost 15 years. As part of the NeHII network, Amber Pharmacy's administrative and clinical teams have access to vital patient information. The information gives us the ability to enhance the services provided to patients and healthcare providers and deliver critical medications to patients in an even timelier manner. Participation also allows Amber Pharmacy to minimize the number of phone calls and faxes to the transplant centers requesting patient information. This in turn reduces their administrative workload and increases data integrity."
Deb Bass, Executive Director of NeHII commented, "We are very pleased with the addition of these important new participants to NeHII. Medication errors have played a key role when addressing patient safety issues and pharmacies are a major player in the patient healthcare experience. Their access to clinical data is vital to safer and more efficient delivery of healthcare."
