Allegheny Health Network Healthcare@Home Expands Home Infusion Services through Acquisition Of Infusion Partners

Allegheny Health Network ’s (AHN) Healthcare@Homedivision announced recently the acquisition of a home infusion pharmacy located in Pittsburgh from Infusion Partners, a subsidiary of BioScrip, Inc., one of the nation’s leading providers of infusion and home healthcare management solutions.

The transaction further expands the geographic reach of AHN’s home medical infusion services, while allowing BioScrip to continue serving some of its national customers in the western PA region, according to Brian Holzer, MD, Senior Vice President of Home and Community Services at AHN.

“The opportunity to acquire an additional infusion pharmacy and its experienced staff from such a respected provider in the industry represents another important step in our efforts to establish a comprehensive home care program for our region that is unsurpassed in service, quality and accessibility,” said Holzer.

With an existing infusion pharmacy and production facility in Meadville PA, AHN Home Infusion currently serves patients in approximately 40 western PA counties.  A new southern pharmacy will greatly enhance service efficiency and broaden the program’s reach in the market, Holzer said.

AHN Home Infusion provides patients with access to a wide range of infusion therapies, including antibiotics (antifungal or antivirals), total parenteral nutrition, enteral therapy, pain management, hydration, chemotherapy, intravenous immunoglobulin, inotropic therapies for end-stage heart failure, steroids and injectable medicines for hemophilia.  The team includes pharmacists who develop customized, home infusion therapy care plans, infusion specialists, nutritionists who design and monitor a patient’s diet by tube or IV feedings and pain management and supportive care staff who manage acute or chronic pain.

BioScrip will still provide care to patients in western PA through its contracts with national insurers from its branches in Ohio and West Virginia.  The Pittsburgh Branch of Infusion Partners will transition services to AHN Home Infusion for patients cared for by AHN hospitals, affiliates, and physician practices.
