AeroScout And Siemens Help Healthcare Organizations Improve Operations And Quality Of Care

Lifespan, a Rhode Island Health System, Leverages Wireless Temperature Monitoring Solution to Increase Staff Productivity and Enhance Patient Care

AeroScout, the leading provider of Enterprise Visibility for the healthcare industry, recently announced that it is working closely with Siemens Healthcare to deploy AeroScout's Real-Time Location System (RTLS) for the benefit of hospitals around the world. Siemens is one of the world's largest healthcare suppliers, with deep expertise in wireless LAN technologies, communication platforms and healthcare IT infrastructure. AeroScout, named "Category Leader for RTLS" by KLAS Research in December 2011, helps healthcare organizations minimize regulatory compliance risks, eliminate manual processes and improve patient care.

Recently, Siemens implemented AeroScout's Temperature Monitoring solution across three of Lifespan's hospitals in Rhode Island. Leveraging its existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, Lifespan is monitoring and managing the temperature of hundreds of refrigerators that contain critical items, such as pharmaceuticals, blood and research materials. As a result, the solution allows clinicians to focus more of their attention on patient care, while also protecting refrigerated items from out-of-compliance temperature ranges and potential spoilage.

"Lifespan needed a solution to quickly and efficiently measure, monitor and report the temperatures of hundreds of refrigerators throughout our hospitals, clinics and research facilities," said Elaine Palm, Director IS Infrastructure at Lifespan. "This new system enables process improvement for our caregivers, as well as protects medications and other temperature-sensitive items that are used to care for patients."

By automating temperature monitoring and management with AeroScout, hospitals can eliminate manual processes that are subject to error and also increase staff efficiency. For example, Lifespan staff previously spent an average of five minutes per refrigerator per day manually checking the temperature of each of its 400 refrigerators, which added up to more than 12,000 hours per year. Now with wireless temperature monitoring, staff time can be shifted from administrative to clinical tasks.

Siemens and AeroScout are also working together to educate the global healthcare market about the benefits enabled by Real-Time Location Systems. In addition to Temperature Monitoring, healthcare organizations can benefit from Asset Tracking & Management, Patient Flow and Patient & Staff Safety solutions. These RTLS solutions and more are driving significant value at many healthcare organizations around the world.

"AeroScout is pleased to be working with Siemens to help hospitals and healthcare systems transform their operations," said Steffan Haithcox, AVP of Marketing at AeroScout. "Whether it's implementing Temperature Monitoring, Asset Tracking & Management or any of our RTLS solutions, this collaboration enables organizations around the world to facilitate regulatory compliance, streamline processes and enhance patient care."
