AeroScout And McRoberts Security Technologies Announce The First Wi-Fi-Based, Campus-Wide Infant Security Solution
- Provides Campus-wide Infant Tracking and Protection
- Lowers Total Cost of Ownership by Working over a Standard Wi-Fi Infrastructure
- Supports Additional Wi-Fi-based Applications such as Asset Management and Temperature & Humidity Monitoring
AeroScout, the leading provider of Enterprise Visibility solutions for the healthcare industry, and McRoberts Security Technologies, a leader in patient protection solutions, recently announced that they have jointly developed the first Wi-Fi-based, campus-wide infant security solution designed to help protect newborns from possible abduction during their hospital stays.
"Being able to locate and protect infants campus-wide, and not just in dedicated units, brings a superior level of security for newborns," said Scott McFarland, General Manager of Healthcare at AeroScout. "AeroScout is pleased to be working with McRoberts to deliver this breakthrough Infant Security solution to hospitals and to help put families and staff more at ease."
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, nearly 20 percent of abductions in U.S. hospitals happen outside of the Mother-Baby unit. The next-generation Infant Securitysolution developed by AeroScout and McRoberts works with a hospital's standard Wi-Fi network and AeroScout Wi-Fi Tags to deliver protection and the location of infants anywhere in the hospital – it is not just confined to particular units. That means infants are monitored 100 percent of the time and can be quickly located, even during transport, transfer and treatment in ancillary departments.
The AeroScout and McRoberts Infant Security solution is the only one of its kind to use standard Wi-Fi infrastructure for determining location, which significantly reduces the time and cost to implement the solution. Leveraging Wi-Fi networks also greatly expands the coverage area compared to solutions that rely on proprietary technology fortheir sensor infrastructure.
The patented Umbilical Cord Infant Tag is Wi-Fi-based and attaches to a newborn's umbilical cord clamp. If anyone attempts to leave the monitored area with a protected child without authorization, the system will set off an alarm, activate magnetic door locks and hold specified elevators. The solution can be integrated with security and access control systems, such as card access, video surveillance, public address systems and pagers. The infant security tag is part of a complete Positive ID Kit that also significantly reduces the risk of accidental or intentional baby switching.
AeroScout pioneered the use of Wi-Fi infrastructure to track patients, staff and medical equipment. The company has more than 500 healthcare customers worldwide and was recently named the 2011 category leader for Healthcare RTLS solutions by KLAS Research. AeroScout's Wi-Fi RTLS solutions have also received the exclusive endorsement of the American Hospital Association.
McRoberts Security Technologies, with its trusted MyChild Infant Security System, has been a leading provider of patient protection solutions since 1992. This collaboration with AeroScout marks the company's continued innovation in the infant protection market, building on McRoberts' recent successful launch of the industry's first Single-Use infant security tag.
"Our mission is to provide the highest level of physical security to the healthcare industry, something we've been doing for twenty years," said Meredith McRoberts, CEO at McRoberts Security Technologies. "Our new infant security solution is an important advancement, and we're pleased to be partnering with AeroScout, the top provider of RTLS, to elevate the level of infant protection that hospitals are able to provide."
Infant Security is the newest solution in a suite of Healthcare Visibility solutions offered by AeroScout on a unified Wi-Fi RTLS platform. Once a healthcare organization or department deploys Infant Security, other applications, including Asset Tracking & Management, Temperature Monitoring and Hand Hygiene Monitoring, can be deployed on the same platform, delivering additional improvements in efficiency, safety and care.
