Addressing The Quadruple Aim With Technology
Healthcare organizations are striving to improve the health of their assigned populations while simultaneously lowering healthcare costs. Many of them use the Triple Aim as an overarching set of goals driving the redesign of systems to improve patient care and population health. The Triple Aim‘s goals are enhancing the patient experience of care, improving the health of populations, and reducing the per capita cost of healthcare.
However, the Triple Aim does not consider that healthcare providers are reporting widespread burnout and dissatisfaction. This burnout can result in lower patient satisfaction, reduced health outcomes, and increased costs, which counters the efforts highlighted in the Triple Aim. Thus, the Quadruple Aim was introduced to incorporate the essential element of improving the work life of healthcare providers, including clinicians and staff. Selecting the right technology to provide complete patient information, deliver value within workflows, and enhance efficiency, will support healthcare organizations in reducing burnout and achieving the Quadruple Aim.
