Add Value To Healthcare Mobility Integration

By Gregory Heinz, Futura Mobility

The proliferation of mobile technology and its integration into healthcare operations has provided opportunities for providers to cut costs and improve workflow efficiencies in all areas of the healthcare facility; from the lab to the point of care and everywhere between. However, in order to effectively take advantage of these benefits, it is critical to have a well thought out mobile device strategy in place prior to implementation. And despite the advent of positions such as the CMIO and CNIO, the overwhelming majority of healthcare providers do not have the resources or experience to tackle mobility on their own. What they are left with are more devices to support, more issues to troubleshoot, and rising costs without clear accountability and ownership.

Open Your Door To The Healthcare VAR

VARs, or Value-Added Resellers, are companies that add features or services to an existing product, and then provide it as a turn-key solution to the end user. In most cases, VARs have extensive relationships built with the OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and are able to provide a wide selection of device brands and types – which in healthcare may range from mobile computer carts/workstations on wheels, bar code scanners, printers, handheld computers, tablets, laptops, etc. Now while the convenience of a “one-stop-shop” certainly has its appeals when considering the benefits of supply chain consolidation, the real “added value” of VARs comes well after the initial sale in the form of deployment solutions and managed support services throughout the product lifecycle.
