How To Make Enterprise Mobility Manageable

Source: MaaS360 by Fiberlink, an IBM company

This CITO Research white paper sponsored by Fiberlink discusses what is needed beyond mobile device management (MDM) to achieve true enterprise mobility. MDM only controls the physical device itself, not the applications installed on the device. Knowing which applications are installed on mobile devices is an important part of keeping corporate networks secure in the age of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).

Organizations need to simply distribution, management, security, compliance, and updating of mobile device applications across all the devices connected to their network. IT must maintain the security and integrity of corporate data and the corporate network while allowing employees to still run applications on their devices. Enabling consumer smartphones and tablets in the enterprise will require a lot more than MDM.

IT has traditionally been the one pushing for mobility and mobile devices, but with more employees owning personal advanced mobile devices line-of-business teams have pushed for mobile apps to increase productivity, customer satisfaction, and competitiveness. Managing applications on mobile devices requires a comprehensive mobile application management (MAM) system as well as device-level control.
