Access To ER Wait Times Enables Patients To Better Manage Emergency Care

Potential patients who have less severe medical emergencies now have access to the approximate wait time at the Emergency Room before they make the decision to go.

In an effort to create a better experience for patients, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) is publicizing wait times for the Emergency Rooms at both our Mishawaka and Plymouth hospitals.

The information will be accessible via a live RSS feed directly from inside the ER to the home page of www.sjmed.com, to a display inside the ER waiting areas at each hospital and to two outdoor billboards in South Bend and Mishawaka.

The wait time, defined as the time between when a patient walks in the door until the time they see a provider, will update every five minutes.  ER wait times are approximate and provided for informational purposes only.

“We understand that a visit to the ER is stressful enough,” says Gregor Staniszewski, SJRMC Emergency Department Director at the Mishawaka Campus. “Through this service, we are hoping to alleviate some of the anxiety that is associated with a medical emergency, and give our community access to the information they need to make best possible decisions for their health and well-being.”

ER wait times will also be available at your fingertips with the new Saint Joseph Connect smartphone application, available for download for Android and iPhone in July.

The Mishawaka Emergency Room is located at 5215 Holy Cross Pkwy., Mishawaka. The Plymouth Emergency Room is located at 1915 Lake Ave., Plymouth.

People experiencing major medical emergencies should always call 9-1-1.
