The My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter System is being used at Holy Cross Hospital to serve patients who are of limited English proficiency and deaf/hard of hearing.

Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL is utilizing the Martti (My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter) platform to communicate with patients who are of limited English proficiency (LEP) and deaf/hard of hearing.

The Martii platform from Language Access Network (LAN) is a wireless, hands-free video conferencing unit for medical interpreting that provides immediate access to a team of translators. The system offers translation services in over 210 languages, including American Sign Language.

Interpreters are located in LAN centers across the country, all of which are HIPAA compliant. Translation is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The company provides video remote interpreting services to more than 200 hospitals and medical facilities around the country. According to the company, LAN helps speed diagnoses, improve outcomes, and drive patient and provider satisfaction.

LAN is a physician-owned company that provides translation services through certified providers. The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf certifies sign language interpreters, while spoken language interpreters are either certified, or in the process of certification, through the Certification Commission for Healthcare or the National Board for the Certification of Medical Interpreters.

“The availability of Martti in hospitals has fundamentally changed the way LEP and Deaf/Hard of Hearing patients access healthcare,” explains LAN CEO James Edwards. “Once language barriers are removed, patients can begin making decisions about their care based on accurate and complete information.”

In addition to the main Holy Cross Hospital campus, the organization has satellite locations across two additional counties, including an urgent care center and an imaging center. Holy Cross also has physician offices.

“Martti serves as a valuable tool [that] helps us communicate with our patients to get them the care they need,” adds Holy Cross Hospital's Associate Relations Coordinator, Rachel Thompson.
