Recently, Health IT Outcomes editor in chief Ken Congdon went out on the road to Geisinger Health System, an integrated health services organization widely recognized for innovative delivery of healthcare including the use of the electronic health record and the development of advanced care models such as ProvenHealth Navigator and ProvenCare, in Danville, PA. As one of the nation's largest rural health services organizations, Geisinger serves more than 2.6 million residents throughout 44 counties in central and northeast Pennsylvania.

Geisinger's health system and health plan are nationally recognized for integration, quality, and service. Its physician-led system is comprised of more than 21,000 employees, including a 1,100-member multi-specialty group practice, eight hospital campuses, two research centers, and a 467,000-member health plan. Geisinger’s mission is to enhance quality of life through an integrated health service organization based on a balanced program of patient care, education, research, and community service.

While in Danville, Congdon spoke with Kevin Capatch, Director Supply Chain Technology and Process Engineering and Sharon Kemberling Director, Geisinger Health System Transfer Center at Geisinger Medical Center. These conversations covered a wide variety of topics, from Geisinger’s enterprise capabilities and visibility across the enterprise and the discharge process and reductions in patient length of stay to analytics and reporting and how data is used to refine processes and drive change.

In this video, Capatch describes the relationship between bed board technology and asset management, as well as what assets Geisinger is tracking via RTLS.
