Smartling Partners With Barton Health To Launch New Spanish Website

Northern California health care provider connects Spanish-speaking patients with equal language access

Smartling recently announced that it has partnered with Barton Health to provide Spanish speakers quick and convenient language access through a new Spanish website, es.bartonhealth.org. With the launch of this new site, Barton Health is now able to directly reach Spanish-speaking patients online.

Barton Health provides health care services to residents and visitors in South Lake Tahoe, California. With the area’s residents comprised of approximately 25 percent Spanish speakers, Barton Health was looking for an efficient way to communicate with and better serve this population. Barton Health turned to Smartling’s Translation Management Platform and Global Delivery Network to deliver a multilingual site that would generate awareness for Barton Health’s health and wellness services among Spanish-speaking patients.

“Launching this new website allows us to better serve our Spanish-speaking community,” said Tracy Young, CMI, RN, BSN, MA, the language access services coordinator at Barton Health. “This collaboration with Smartling will enable us to become a leader in health care language access to Spanish speakers.”

“Barton Health is committed to providing Spanish patients with in-language content, and we are honored that we could aid in its efforts by helping to make its Spanish-language website a reality,” said Judy Jenner, owner of Twin Translations, one of Barton Health’s translation partners. “Our partnership with Barton Health is especially meaningful because it enables us to become part of a larger industry initiative to provide equal language access to multicultural audiences. As a thriving boutique language services provider this is a major differentiator for us.”

The new Spanish website looks similar to Barton Health’s English-language website and includes access to its programs, services and community events. Smartling’s technology automatically collects and centrally stores text from the Barton Health website and then delivers an SEO-compatible multilingual experience directly to target audiences. Leveraging these capabilities, Barton Health was able to quickly and cost-effectively launch its Spanish-language website. Additionally, Smartling’s translation-in-context feature enables Barton Health’s translation team to see the context in which the source text appears, resulting in high-quality, linguistically correct translations.

“Quality is the single most important factor when translating health care content for multicultural audiences,” said Smartling CEO Jack Welde. “Simple translation isn’t enough to capture and build a strong patient-provider relationship. For the best results, communications between health care providers and multilingual patients must be relevant, accurate and culturally appropriate. Smartling’s software enables high-quality multilingual translations that hospitals and health care providers can leverage to serve their patient populations faster and more cost-effectively than ever before.”
