OhioHealth Selects Edifecs As Its Strategic ICD-10 Partner

Nationally Recognized Healthcare Provider Will Use Edifecs ICD-10 Solution to Identify Risk, Simplify Code Mapping and Better Leverage Resources

Edifecs, Inc., a leading provider of healthcare software solutions, recently announced that OhioHealth, a not-for-profit healthcare organization, has selected Edifecs as its strategic technology partner for ICD-10. OhioHealth will use Edifecs ICD-10 Impact Analytics and ICD-10 Code Management to automate much of the work required to analyze claims data, create code maps from ICD-9 to ICD-10 and further prioritize education and training efforts for nearly 22,000 healthcare associates and medical staff.

“Like most large healthcare provider networks, OhioHealth has multiple initiatives and projects underway—all of which need dedicated resources, budget and oversight, not to mention active involvement by medical staff,” said Diane Setty, system director for HIM and RAC, OhioHealth. “Using Edifecs’ risk assessment capabilities, we can drill down into a large dataset to identify risk by facility, service line or even by physician. OhioHealth has engaged with a vendor for online ICD-10 education, and Edifecs is the next step in further focusing our education and training efforts across multiple facilities on the areas where we may be exposed to the greatest level of risk.”

“Edifecs code mapping solution will also speed up remediation,” she continued. “We’re already conducting early-stage payer testing.”

The Edifecs ICD-10 solution helps healthcare organizations achieve operational and financial neutrality by understanding and mitigating risks at each stage of the ICD-10 transition. By leveraging and analyzing its own historical information to prioritize remediation and testing efforts, OhioHealth can take a pragmatic and iterative approach for a smooth transition.

OhioHealth selected the Edifecs ICD-10 solution for its intuitive interface, analytics capabilities and ease of code mapping between ICD-9 and ICD-10. For many large, multi-facility healthcare organizations similar to OhioHealth, the desire for experienced coders and good education resources is at a premium – the Edifecs ICD-10 solution will help OhioHealth mitigate the resource challenge by determining which areas of the organization need more training and education.

The transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 represents one of the most wide-ranging impacts to a healthcare provider’s business. Given the dramatic increase in codes from roughly 18,000 to approximately 155,000, processes for scheduling, care delivery, diagnostics, billing, and analytics will likely change in some way. One of the biggest concerns for providers, however, is revenue cycle neutrality. Providers could experience significant payment variation under ICD-10 compared to ICD-9, depending on which ICD-10 codes they use when submitting claims.

“OhioHealth is a great example of a healthcare organization able to successfully move forward with ICD-10, despite competition for resources across the organization,” said Sunny Singh, CEO of Edifecs. “OhioHealth had many choices when choosing an ICD-10 technology partner and Edifecs is prepared to help the organization understand and tackle this business challenge throughout the transition.”
