Kno2 Partners With Avizia To Introduce Telehealth To Rural Hospitals

Combined platforms enable seamless delivery of telemedicine solution and interoperable patient document exchange for improved care quality and continuity of care

Kno2, the company that optimizes patient document exchange for everyone in healthcare, has partnered with Avizia, a leading telehealth solution provider, to expand access to specialist and primary care in rural hospitals and facilitate continuity of care by connecting patients to providers, regardless of disparate locations.

Kno2’s cloud-based, interoperable document exchange platform powers the secure transmission of patient documentation from Avizia’s telehealth platform directly into any partner hospital’s EMR/EHR. Transmitted patient documents such as the Continuity of Care Document (CCD) are then automatically attached to the patient’s record, increasing efficiencies by mirroring the existing clinical workflow and enhancing patient safety through reduced potential for human error.

A health system in the Southwest was the first to benefit from the integrated telehealth and patient document exchange solutions after an accelerated three-week implementation cycle in December 2015. Since then, the organization has exchanged approximately 1,500 Direct messages as part of its remote specialist and primary care delivery to patients, allowing them to remain within the comfort and convenience of their own community.

“Avizia empowers hospitals, clinics and physician groups to provide better care through an enterprise telehealth platform that makes virtual care a natural extension of healthcare,” said Avizia Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Cory Costley. “Our solution integrates with health systems’ existing processes and technology, and does so rapidly and efficiently to minimize implementation time and costs.”

Kno2’s standardized, easy-to-use APIs, streamline and speed integrations with a hospital’s EMR/EHR. “HL7, a common solution used to transfer CCD records, requires extra effort and coordination to customize a secure channel. Kno2 simplifies the process by acting as a bridge that securely transfers CCD records,” added Costley. Avizia offers the Kno2 integration to anyone using Epic Care Anywhere, with the advantage that it requires nearly 75 percent less time to implement when compared to HL7.

“We are thrilled to join with Avizia to provide turnkey telehealth and patient document exchange services to those who suffer most from reduced access to specialist care—our rural communities,” stated Kno2 president and chief technology officer, Therasa Bell. “The key is to provide these resource-constrained hospitals with an easy, affordable and secure method to send and receive patient documentation over multiple document exchange platforms. With the Kno2 solution, they don’t have to worry about installing fax APIs, Direct messaging APIs, IHE profiles and HL7 APIs separately. We do it all for them, resulting in significant workflow efficiencies and cost savings while driving improved patient care delivery.”
