California hospital chooses an interactive patient system to improve patient satisfaction and reduce hospital operating costs.

Sierra View District Hospital, of California, has chosen Allen Technologies’ Interactive Patient System (IPS) to provide education and interactive television to its patients. The implementation is expected to improve patient satisfaction, raise HCAHPS scores, streamline clinical processes, and reduce hospital operating costs.

Officials at Sierra View sought a custom, budget-friendly engagement solution to enhance the patient experience. “Delivering high-quality health care that exceeds our patients’ expectations is our top priority here at Sierra View District Hospital,” said Mike Kobaly, administrative director of general services at Sierra View. “Allen Technologies listened closely to our requirements, clearly understood the constraints of the hospital budget, and worked with us to define an interactive patient system that is simple to use, fits our patient and clinical needs, our budgets, and is scalable for our future requirements.”

A pioneer of interactive patient solutions, Allen Technologies’ IPS solution includes Samsung hospital-grade TVs, Elo bedside touchscreens, Cisco networking gear, IPTV, and software modules. Sierra’s deployment will also provide an enhanced patient education library, entertainment choices, and upgrades as needed. Allen Technologies’ focus is to “deliver flexible, scalable interactive systems that address each hospital’s current needs but also provide a clear path for expansion as needs change,” said Jerry Folsom, president and CEO of Allen Technologies.

“Working with their content development team, we can define what the screens will look like, how patients navigate the system, and even how selections will be named,” said Kobaly. “We really feel like it is our system, built specifically for Sierra View’s patients and staff.”

Located in Porterville, California, nonprofit Sierra View has grown from a 42-bed hospital in 1958 to a 167-bed full service acute care facility, the major healthcare provider of the Southern Sequoia region of California’s Central Valley. Earning the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation, Sierra View offers a full range of services, including state-of-the-art MRI and CT scan. The campus includes one of California’s most advanced cancer facilities, the Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center, an outpatient dialysis center, and medical office building. A seven-bed pediatric unit is operated in collaboration with Children’s Hospital of Central California.
