Direct Secure Messaging Solution In Healthcare

OhioHealth expects its providers to easily and inexpensively exchange health information securely while remaining in full compliance with HIPAA and HITECH.

OhioHealth, based in Columbus, OH, has selected DataMotion’s Direct Secure Messaging services for its 28,000 physicians and associates. The implementation is expected to provide secure, easy, and inexpensive exchange of health information for the health system’s providers while assuring compliance with HIPAA and HITECH.

Leaders at OhioHealth conducted an extensive search of technology vendors before choosing health information service provider (HISP) DataMotion. “OhioHealth is one of the top large health systems in the U.S. in good part because they constantly strive to develop practices that produce the best possible patient outcomes,” said Bob Janacek, chief technology officer for DataMotion. “We find it very validating that after researching many solutions, OhioHealth found DataMotion technology the best for meeting their high standards.”

DataMotion Direct features user-friendly data transfer for “real-world” healthcare communications, including secure email in which to send and receive protected health information (PHI), summary of care documents, and large images – both in and out-of-network. “Our Direct Secure Messaging service enables healthcare organizations to communicate securely, easily, and cost-effectively, allowing them to focus on patient care rather than IT issues,” said Janacek. And, as DataMotion is fully accredited by the Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program (DTAAP) for HISPs from DirectTrust.org, OhioHealth can integrate with the Direct Project.

By leveraging DataMotion’s breakthrough secure messaging service as “relied upon software”, OhioHealth has achieved 2014 certification of its EHR by the Office of the National Coordinator’s Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB). OhioHealth can now attest for Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU2) and qualify for financial incentives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. “We partnered successfully with DataMotion as a HISP to certify our EHR for Meaningful Use Stage 2 and are now integrating DataMotion Direct with our Epic EMR,” said Cris Berry, RHIA, program manager of CareConnect Ambulatory at OhioHealth. “We’ve found DataMotion to be a knowledgeable, responsive, and trusted partner we can recommend without hesitation.”

Recognized as one of the top five large health systems in America by Truven Health Analytics, OhioHealth is a nonprofit healthcare provider affiliated with the United Methodist Church. With roots tracing back to 1891, OhioHealth serves residents of a 40-county area in central Ohio. A network of 12 member hospitals and 25+ health and surgery centers, hospice, home health, and medical equipment facilities are staffed by 28,000 employed physicians, associates, and volunteers. FORTUNE magazine ranked OhioHealth in its list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” in every year since 2007, and all of the health system’s eligible facilities received “A” Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group.
