DataMotion Officially Joins DirectTrust To Help Make Healthcare Information Exchange Succeed

Secure Communications Leader Lends Support to Independent Trade Association for Direct Secure Messaging Interoperability

DataMotion, a health information service provider (HISP) offering secure data delivery services, recently announced it has officially joined DirectTrust,  an independent non-profit trade association created by and for participants in the Direct secure messaging community. One of the earliest supporters of DirectTrust, DataMotion is actively involved in efforts aimed at driving the Direct messaging initiative spearheaded by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.

“Our goal is to establish and maintain a national Security and Trust Framework to support Direct, including the development of a standards-based accreditation program,” said David C. Kibbe, MD, president and CEO of DirectTrust. “DataMotion is a valued member whose technology is facilitating health information exchange via use of the Direct standard. They recognize the value of collaboration with other vendors to ensure compliance with uniform, consensus-based, trustworthy exchange policies and practices.”

DirectTrust defines its Trust Framework as a set of technical, legal, and business standards, expressed as policies and best practices recommendations, which members of the community agree to follow, uphold and enforce. Members of DirectTrust now include representatives from HISPs, Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), Certificate Authorities (CAs), consultants, state agencies, and Electronic Health Record (EHR) vendors, as well as health care providers who are their purchasers and subscribers. The organization supports both provider-to-provider Direct exchange, as well as patient-to-provider Direct exchange.

Millions of desktop, tablet and mobile users leverage DataMotion’s mature data delivery platform to securely transmit Protected Health Information (PHI). DataMotion entered the clinical marketplace last fall with the launch of DataMotion Direct; its implementation of Direct Secure Messaging. The service has since received strong interest from EHR, HIE, and interface engine vendors, along with healthcare provider organizations. The service enables them to meet CMS Meaningful Use Stage 2 transmit requirements and qualify for financial incentives.

“DirectTrust is bringing all elements of the industry together - from healthcare practitioners to technology solution providers – resulting in improved patient care at lower costs,” said DataMotion Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Bob Janacek. “We’re having great success enabling organizations to integrate with The Direct Project and we are glad to lend our expertise to DirectTrust to help bring about a new era of real-world, secure communications in healthcare.”
