In the past 10 years, clinical quality measures (CQMs) have become an integral component in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) drive to improve quality, reduce costs and expand access to healthcare for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries and, ultimately, for all patients in the U.S. Although quality-reporting programs such as meaningful use provide incentives to help providers implement and use electronic health records (EHRs) to collect and report on clinical data, practices often need help deciding what data to collect, which measures to report on, and how to best use their EHRs to do so.
