Population Health Management With Big Data

OhioHealth selects cloud-based analytic solution to support population health and patient-centered care initiatives, and to foster enhanced physician alignment across the enterprise.

OhioHealth, based in Columbus, Ohio, has selected Explorys’ big data platform to support several critical programs. The implementation is expected to aid the healthcare organization with population health management, patient-centered care initiatives, and enhanced physician alignment.

With massive amounts of clinical, financial, and operational data, OhioHealth sought a solution that could measure and analyze its data to provide a patient-centered model with proactive engagement. “With Explorys, we will improve our ability to identify and normalize variations in care, introduce a speed of development that mirrors our thirst for analytics, and leverage an architecture that can be the base intelligence framework for our organization,” said Michael Krouse, senior VP and CIO of OhioHealth. “By implementing the Explorys platform and becoming a part of its growing network, we will gain deeper insights into our patient population that will enhance our ability to transform the process of care.”

Explorys began as an innovation spinoff from the renowned Cleveland Clinic in 2009. Its SaaS-based solution, Explorys Platform and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Application Suite, will be leveraged at OhioHealth for rapid population health management, measurement, and data. “Provider organizations are increasingly embracing risk-based payment models, and they require solutions that not only provide a greater understanding of population health, but allow them to predict and act on new opportunities to improve care,” said Charlie Lougheed, president and chief strategy officer of Explorys. “This partnership with OhioHealth is yet another example of how Explorys is working with its customers to lead the way in improving quality and decreasing the cost of care.”

Recognized as one of the top five large health systems in America by Truven Health Analytics, OhioHealth is a nonprofit healthcare provider affiliated with the United Methodist Church. With roots tracing back to 1891, OhioHealth serves residents of a 40-county area in central Ohio. A network of 12 member hospitals and 25+ health and surgery centers, hospice, home health, and medical equipment facilities are staffed by 28,000 employed physicians, associates, and volunteers. FORTUNE magazine ranked OhioHealth in its list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” in every year since 2007, and all of the health system’s eligible facilities received “A” Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group.
