Taking The Temperature Of Information Governance In Healthcare

AHIMA invites healthcare professionals to take survey

If you work in healthcare, the American Health Information Management Associationwants you to take its third annual survey on the state of information governance (IG) in healthcare. The brief survey will remain open through May 17. All participants will receive a complimentary white paper publication highlighting the survey analysis and results.

The survey invites anyone working in healthcare to help capture the current IG landscape and provide a better understanding of IG projects that organizations are undertaking. The survey will be sent out to 140,000 healthcare professionals, including CIOs, CISOs, privacy officers, CFOs, CEOs, compliance officers, risk managers, quality managers and more.

“AHIMA is committed to bringing IG to healthcare, and there is a growing realization among industry organizations that they need to treat information as the strategic asset that it is,” said AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon, MBA, RHIA, CAE, FACHE, FAHIMA. “IG is the way to do this by creating a comprehensive framework to ensure that information can be trusted and is available when and where it is needed.”

Added Kathy Downing, MA, RHIA, CHP, PMP, senior director of IG at AHIMA: “IG is a critical asset in healthcare transformation. IG programs improve organizational performance through proactive compliance, the effective use of information, and by controlling costs. IG advances trusted information, essential for consumer engagement and for public and community health.”

The survey will help determine the level of industry understanding of IG processes, identify what projects organizations would take on with funding for IG, evaluate IG adoption and effectiveness in healthcare and compare it to previous years. The survey seeks to more specifically define and collect details on successes, obstacles and opportunities in the 10 IG competencies, developed by AHIMA as part of the IG Adoption Model.TM
