Surgery Practice Replaces EMR To Improve Productivity And Meaningful Use Reporting
By early 2011, Virginia Surgery Associates’ three-year old electronic medical record system already no longer met the practice’s needs. Despite consistent upgrades and patches, “The system would frequently slow down and crash, and had become overall unusable from a provider perspective,” said Executive Director Lorrie Hall.
Meaningful use reporting was extremely cumbersome. Staff had to manually introduce parameters to run multiple reports just to get basic information, and then run special queries to generate additional data. While they were able to produce the MU reports they needed, it was difficult and discouraging, with busy staff sometimes having to stop in mid-report and return to the task another day. It was time to find a new solution.
