Shifting Gears: How to Revamp Your ICD-10 Strategy
Are you struggling to navigate the shifting road to ICD-10? Join this complimentary webinar for expert advice from Ken Congdon, Editor in Chief of Health IT Outcomes, and Valerie V. Duffy, CPC, AHIMA Approved ICD-10 CM Trainer, Senior Coding Manager at SPi Healthcare.
On May 1, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) officially announced a forthcoming interim final rule that would set the new ICD-10 compliance date for October 1, 2015. In addition, the announcement stated that the rule, “…will also require HIPAA covered entities to continue to use ICD-9-CM through September 30, 2015.” This news may have offered some relief from the limbo of trying to figure out how to proceed with ICD-10 implementation efforts, but reformulating your strategy and plans is still a challenge. If you were well along in your training and implementation plan, you may now be concerned that your coders and physicians could forget the information you’ve worked so hard to provide, and will need to be re-trained next year. Since ICD-10 has been delayed many times, at
this point it may be difficult to get stakeholders on board and convince them that plans and preparation should continue.
So how should you proceed? It’s important to maximize the benefits of preparations you have already made for ICD-10, and not lose momentum. Instead of simply “pausing” your plan and waiting until next summer to pick it back up, take this time to carefully examine your training, testing and rollout program. In this webinar, Ken and Valerie will share best practice advice, answer your questions about the delay, and discuss the options for moving forward.
