This past week in San Diego, more than 22 healthcare providers and technology organizations attended the OnBase + Epic User Forum. There they learned about all the latest developments from industry-leading enterprise content management (ECM) and electronic medical record (EMR) companies. The Forum included sessions about the development roadmap and discussed best practices for addressing clinical, payer, back office and mobile needs across the enterprise.

Mobile
By extending ECM to a mobile environment, users have access to the content they need, when they need it, wherever they are. Mobile solutions for patient access improve document or signature intensive processes, such as patient and bedside registration to improve the patient experience, speed the registration process and reduce administrative costs.
Patients are no longer asked to complete multiple forms requesting the same information. And the registration process is improved by eliminating monotonous scanning and indexing tasks required from a paper-based registration.
Mobile ECM solutions also enable clinicians to access the patient’s chart from anywhere. Not only can clinicians now access both DICOM and non-DICOM images from a tablet, they can also create new forms and take photos (such as wound or dermatology) and associate those photos with the patient’s visit.
OnBase + Epic Roadmap
The value of a shared roadmap between Epic and OnBase becomes apparent when showing healthcare IT leaders new functionality. Sometimes we take things for granted, even when some capabilities have existed for several years. After these sessions, attendees often approach the speakers to learn more about addressing specific issues, which shows how much OnBase grows with each release and forum.
It’s also rewarding when a customer’s question is answered by another customer. When a customer chimes in with ‘we do this and it’s awesome,’ you can’t help but feel like you’re providing solutions that make a difference.
Integration best practices
We had a great discussion about reporting dashboards, different ways to upload documents through Epic, electronic signatures and workflows. Everyone was really interested in learning about the new interfacing with Epic and how it will enhance document corrections and encounter creations processes from Epic.
Attendees shared a lot of good information with each other regarding real issues they had already addressed. Roundtables are successful when we can gather valuable feedback for future enhancements, and customers leave with new ideas and solutions for their everyday challenges.
