Florida Hospital's Alliance And Innovation Exchange And Babyscripts Present Revolutionary Virtual Care-Based Prenatal Care At HIMSS17
Florida Hospital’s Alliance and Innovation eXchange (AIX), an innovation hub comprised of a specialized team that connects businesses of all sizes to health-care professionals, and Babyscripts™, a company whose virtual care platform connects physicians with their pregnant patients at key milestones that typically require a prenatal visit, are joining forces to launch a program that promises to profoundly change the way expectant moms and their doctors manage obstetric care.
Babyscripts uses precision medicine and mobile technology to help doctors monitor real-time readings from weight scales, blood pressure monitors and glucometers. Preliminary studies have shown that Babyscripts improves outcomes in pregnancy, resulting in healthier low-risk pregnancies, and allows problems in pregnancies to be detected sooner.
The company was the winner of the inaugural InnovationX, a “Shark Tank”-style competition created by AIX in 2015 in which start-ups and early-stage companies committed to healthcare innovation travel to Orlando to compete by showcasing their solutions to one of five challenges posed by Florida Hospital. Founded by Juan Pablo Segura and Anish Sebastian, Babyscripts’ successful presentation kick-started an ongoing relationship with the Orlando-based life-science accelerator.
Juan Pablo Segura, Co-Founder and President of Babyscripts, and Ashley Simmons, Florida Hospital's Director of Innovation Development, will be at HIMSS17 in the Intelligent Health Pavilion at booth number 8361. They will be available for interviews and discussions about the program and how it provides a model for precision medicine.
“We started Babyscripts with the belief that internet-enabled medical devices could help deliver more timely and precise care,” said Segura. “We've now proven that virtual care in obstetrics is not just possible but can actually positively impact workflow and how patients interact remotely with their care. The next step with Florida Hospital’s Alliance and Innovation eXchange is to deliver more risk-specific technology tools to patients that need the help the most. That's precision care and what the triple aim is all about.”
The partnership expanded in 2016 at the Future of Obstetrics Summit -- hosted on the hospital’s Health Village campus in Orlando -- which brought together leaders in obstetrics, patient care, remote patient monitoring and data science to explore the challenges of providing precision medical care to pregnant mothers. Babyscripts’ successful pilot program at Florida Hospital’s Loch Haven OBGYN location yielded data, case studies, and a roadmap to launch a full collaboration that allows Babyscripts and Florida Hospital to use technology to address high-risk conditions in pregnancy.
“Start-ups and early-stage companies, such as Babyscripts, that partner with the Alliance and Innovation eXchange are granted a distinct advantage because of the unique ecosystem found within Florida Hospital’s Health Village, which allows them to accelerate the typical launch process,” said Ashley Simmons, Florida Hospital's Director of Innovation Development. “On one campus, research can lead to ideas, and then be prototyped to test on subjects, all within months, to retrieve valuable real-world outcomes.”
The Alliance and Innovation eXchange and Babyscripts’ most recent 90-day pilot program involved 90 patients ages 17-40. Patients in the pilot said the program made their pregnancy easier, and helped them feel more connected to the hospital, the staff, and gave them a greater sense of empowerment in their OB care.
