Nurses Disrupted By Telehealth

The new HealthSpot location is a walk-in kiosk that offers care for children and adults.

The Miami Children’s Hospitaland Florida Blue, an insurance carrier in the state, have joined together to offer healthcare services through HealthSpot, a private, 8-foot-by-7-foot enclosurefeaturing touchscreens, medical devices, and videoconferencing capabilities that will enable Miami Children's medical providers to see members ages two and older.

The new HealthSpot location will operate as a walk-in kiosk in the company’s retail center in Miami and will be supported by an on-site, accredited medical attendant. It features two-way, high-definition video screens. The medical devices in each unit – stethoscope, scale, blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, thermometer, otoscope, and magnascope – are digital and stream medical information to provider and patient.

Florida Blue members have the option to make an appointment or walk in to be seen. The HealthSpot stationis indicated for minor, common health issues, such as fevers, colds, rashes, allergies, and more. Florida Blue’s adult members will be able to utilize the new location, which allows MCH to expand its telehealth offerings to adult patients.

The new HealthSpot location is another step toward telemedicine for Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH). In 2013, MCH Anywhere was created, a pediatric telehealth program that provides the review of diagnostic information through videoconferencing with board-certified clinicians. MCH Anywhere is supported by a telehealth command center, based on the hospital’s main campus, and is designed to help eliminate barriers of time and distance to support families in receiving timely healthcare guidance.

According to Dr. Narendra Kini, president and CEO of Miami Children’s, the organization is hopeful the new HealthSpot location “will be a valued convenience to Florida Blue members of all ages.”
