Transition of care requirements with extended healthcare community expected

Capital Region Medical Center (CRMC), located in Jefferson City, MOi, has expanded its partnership with Summit Healthcare by choosing Summit Care Exchange for CCD integration and direct messaging. The technology will support CRMC’s transition of care requirements with its extended healthcare community.

A long-time customer of Summit Healthcare, CRMC had been using the Summit Express Connect interface engine and Summit Provider Exchange for bi-directional physician office integration. As the full-service facility began to focus on attaining Meaningful Use Stage 2, particularly transition of care, the need became apparent for a flexible turn-key solution that would support this level of integration. Given Summit Care Exchange’s ease of deployment, scalability in supporting many CCD integration topologies, and bi-directional integration to consume CCDA’s within CRMC’s EHR, the choice was relatively simple.

“We have high expectations set to reach Stage 2 attestation for Meaningful Use driven by the transition of care requirement and our desire to communicate with providers both in and out of our network,” said Belynda Imhoff, clinical applications manager at CRMC. “We have worked with Summit Healthcare as our integration vendor since 2006, so when it came time for this next level of integration we turned to them to assist. We feel confident in our decision and feel we are well positioned to meet this major milestone for our organization."

With a live target date of April 1st, 2014, the Summit Care Exchange installation at CRMC will roll-out in two stages. Phase one will allow communication with the facility’s physician clinics that currently run the eClinicalWorks EMR. And phase two will allow CRMC to communicate with other regional healthcare providers, long term care facilities, and home health agencies. “We are pleased to support Capital Region Medical Center as they work toward Stage 2 today and for all of their future integration needs,” said Ted Rossi, president of Summit Healthcare.

Founded in 1951 by a group of Central Missouri physicians, CRMC has grown from a 35-bed community-based hospital to a present-day 100-bed academic medical center affiliated with the University of Missouri Health System. The full-service facility offers a continuum of care with an extensive clinic system of urgent care centers, specialty physician practices, and one of the few accredited rehabilitation centers in Missouri. Accredited with the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, CRMC offers advanced cardiac and oncology services, women’s health and maternity services, and orthopedics, among other specialties. The hospital is Medicare and Medicaid certified.
