PointClickCare Receives Dea Electronic Prescriptions Of Controlled Substances (EPCS) Certification

Leading EHR Platform Streamlines Medication Management Workflow and Improves Resident Safety with Integrated ePrescribing Solution

PointClickCare, the leading cloud-based software platform for the senior care market, announced recently that its electronic health record (EHR) platform has been approved for electronic prescribing of controlled substances, as a result of obtaining DEA EPCS certification. The successful completion of the audit, performed by the Drummond Group, enables PointClickCare customers immediately to leverage its proprietary ePrescribing solution, built to integrate seamlessly with its EHR platform and designed specifically for the long-term care industry, in advance of the recently extended New York State ePrescribing mandate of March 2016.

PointClickCare has partnered with Surescripts, the nation’s largest health information network, to offer a direct connection between PointClickCare’s ePrescribing solution and the institutional pharmacies accessible through the Surescripts network. The Surescripts partnership extends the work that PointClickCare is doing to connect its customers to pharmacies and is initially being rolled-out to New York–based customers specifically to meet the state’s mandate. PointClickCare has numerous direct integrations with the nation’s leading institutional pharmacies and is committed to continuing to expand and strengthen its pharmacy network.

The PointClickCare pharmacy network enables practitioners working with long-term care providers to prescribe medications that can be electronically transmitted to 95 percent of pharmacies across the United States, while integrating this workflow directly within PointClickCare’s EHR platform. This unified exchange of information between practitioners, providers and pharmacies will help significantly reduce the risks associated with medication-related errors, while enabling regulatory compliance.

“The LTPAC industry is constantly evolving and we are committed to positioning our customers for success by preparing them for the changes that will affect their business,” says Terri Weckle, Senior Vice President of Strategic Products, PointClickCare. “We believe offering an ePrescribing solution that is uniquely developed for our platform not only supports the regulatory mandate, but delivers on PointClickCare's promise to bring to market an effective exchange of data that helps our customers take advantage of advanced web and mobile options for coordinated care with their practitioners and pharmacy partners.”

Leveraging PointClickCare’s ePrescribing solution through its EHR platform will streamline documentation and data workflow between healthcare providers, ultimately improving patient safety through reduced prescription errors and better access to accurate information.

“We view our work with PointClickCare as a significant move to increase efficiency and connectivity in the long-term and post-acute care market,” said Greg Hansen, EVP and chief customer officer, Surescripts. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with PointClickCare by offering their users a fully electronic solution through a single point of connectivity, with access to all pharmacies and a full range of transaction types.”

Further to PointClickCare’s efforts in enhancing its ePrescribing solution capabilities, its Practitioner Engagement mobile application has been approved by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy to transmit electronic orders of non-controlled substances. PointClickCare is proactively working with regulatory agencies to ensure solution compliance and make ePrescribing available to all customers across the country.
