Improving Patient Engagement With Virtual Health
A trip to the doctor’s office, even for a routine check-up or follow-up visit, often consumes hours of a patient’s day. Even getting an appointment can be a struggle, given the larger patient loads at many offices, increasing demands on physician schedules and the difficulty many people face in trying to coordinate the visit with their own busy work schedules, their children’s schedules and other conflicts.
For patients in some regions, transportation can be an obstacle. Others may suffer from physical ailments that make it difficult to travel or sit in a waiting room for more than a few minutes.
As a result, patients often skip follow-up visits altogether, fail to take their medications, or miss important milestones in their care plans. That lack of engagement between office visits can erode the relationship between the clinician and the patient, and makes it nearly impossible for physicians to ensure that patients followed their treatment plans, or to properly evaluate their health status.
