HireRight Expands Medical Credentials Verifications To Aid Health Care Organizations In Improving Patient Care And Compliance

Verifying the medical credentials of health care professionals is a critical step for health care organizations to help ensure patient care and safety, facilitate compliance, and mitigate risks. HireRight, a leading provider of global background checks, drug and health testing, and electronic Form I-9/E-Verify solutions, has expanded its medical credentialing verification services to help health care organizations meet these goals and confirm the qualifications of physicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, and other medical professionals. HireRight offers an extensive range of health care credential verifications and has added four new services to complement its current offering: institutional privileges and status verification; professional liability coverage and malpractice history verification; verification of clinical references; and DEA controlled substance license verification.

These services can be performed within HireRight Enterprise and HireRight Professional, making them accessible to large health networks as well as midsize hospitals and clinics. The new offerings include:

  • Institutional privileges and status verification: checks if the individual was granted institutional privileges and the status of those privileges at current and past health care organizations in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific.
  • Professional liability coverage and malpractice history verification: checks if an individual has valid professional liability insurance coverage, and reports pending or resolved malpractice notices, claims, or lawsuits in the United States.
  • Verification of clinical references: obtains information about an individual's clinical skills, experience, and character from peers in the United States and globally.
  • DEA controlled substance license verification: checks the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) database to verify if an individual has an active license and correct certification level to prescribe medicines deemed as controlled substances.

In addition to these new services, HireRight also offers professional license verifications and tracking, and education and employment verifications.

"Excellent patient care is a top priority for health care providers. Verifying the credentials of medical professionals can help ensure effective patient care and security, as well as mitigate brand and litigation risks, and meet compliance requirements," said Chuck Hammel, director, account management, HireRight. "We've been a pioneer of screening services for the health care industry, and offer a broad line of screening services, including license verifications and sanctions checks. The addition of these new credential verifications helps organizations ensure they hire the most qualified and experienced medical professionals."
