According to a recent survey, health IT workers earn above average salaries.

A survey conducted by HealthITJobs.com has revealed above-average salaries are common in the health IT field. An infographic designed to highlight the survey’s results shows the overall average salary for health IT professionals is $89,879.43 per year. On average, workers received bonuses of $13,000 in the last year.

Men make significantly more than women with average salaries between the two sexes measuring $17,000 a year apart. "Unfortunately for women in the field, the gender pay gap is very much a problem in health IT," the report states. "Men in health IT make a significant amount more than women.”

The highest paying position is that of project manager at $111,000 per year, followed by healthcare informatics ($94,000), systems analyst ($81,000), implementation consultant ($80,000), clinical applications ($78,000), and training ($74,000).

According to Healthcare IT News, other results of the survey show:

  • Health IT consulting companies pay the most with an average of $109,715.42.
  • Health IT professionals in the Mid-Atlantic region make the most at $105,923.00.
  • Eighty percent of health IT professionals are satisfied with their jobs.
  • There is a $35,000-plus salary difference between those with experience and those without experience in the field.

The survey concludes noting "the future is looking bright – and lucrative – for those looking to pursue a job in the health IT field."
