HealthTap asked doctors to rate what they thought were the top 100 health apps.

In a huge survey of more than 65,000 physicians in its network and another 500,000 in its referral network, HealthTap asked doctors to rate what they believed were the top 100 health apps. According to mHealth News, the company then organized these recommendations into top Android and iOS apps as well as by category such as diabetes apps or running fitness apps.

“We've received a significant amount of feedback from our users, telling us that they're confused by the deluge of app choices available to them,” said HealthTap founder and CEO Ron Gutman in an article for PC Mag. “Doctors too told us they'd like to learn which apps their peers recommended. In response to these requests, we decided to bring together the best doctors in the U.S. from our network and beyond to help organize and identify the best apps available today to both consumers and doctors.”

According to Gutman, it’s important that these results come from doctors, not an anonymous source. “We're weighing in on medical validity,” he said. “It all boils down to, would you recommend this app or not? Yes or no? Are you going to stand behind it and put your name and reputation behind it?”
