From Customization To Collaboration: Matching Mobile Devices To Clinicians' Workflow

Source: Intel Corporation

This white paper from Intel discusses mobility in the healthcare industry and selecting the right mobile solution.  Mobile devices in healthcare are growing at a fast rate and healthcare IT services are driving the charge as clinicians seek mobile applications that are interactive and allow for bidirectional flows of information.

In this white paper we also take a look at the ‘Four C’s’ of clinical mobility: consume, create, collaborate, and circulate. These ‘Four C’s’ deal with the primary things physicians want to be able to do with their devices, including viewing medical information, charting and note taking, collaborating with others, and performing tasks like e-prescribing and order entry among many other activities. Having clinicians use mobile devices for healthcare-related communications while maintaining adequate security will be a major challenge as well.

A large range of mobile devices are available to the healthcare industry, but selecting the right device is important. Medical professionals must choose a device that will fit their workflow and be able to withstand the conditions it will be subjected to. Some things to consider are controlling infection, battery life, ruggedness, security, primary use (input, consumption, etc.), and many other factors based on what the person using the device does on a daily basis.
