Health IT Voices hosts Todd Schnick and Kelly Riggs spoke with many of healthcare's most influential leaders in order to keep you current on the latest technology and people driving health IT.
In this podcast, Sean Murphy, VP, HSBU HIPAA/Information Security Officer for Leidos Health discusses if HIPAA compliance is the main reason why information security in the healthcare space is so challenging, or if there are other factors that make data security tougher. Murphy explains what, when he arrives onsite at a healthcare provider, are the first few things he looks at to get a sense of how securely an organization is handling its data and how, for smaller providers that may be resource strapped, he gets them to understand the importance of dedicating resources to security when they might not see how it ties to come clinical outcome. He also gives his reaction to the high-profile data breaches in in the healthcare space in the past year, as well as how much of a challenge it becomes for a provider to incorporate and protect date as mobile technology becomes ubiquitous and patients start generating their own healthcare data with their mobile devices.
