AMGA Encouraged By CMS' Andy Slavitt's Testimony Before The Senate Finance Committee

AMGA recently released the following statement in response to the testimony of Andy Slavitt, acting director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), before the Senate Finance Committee on the implementation of Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).

“AMGA appreciates the thoughtful approach CMS is considering in implementing the payment reforms under MACRA,” said Donald W. Fisher, Ph.D., CAE, AMGA’s president and chief executive officer. “Even among the most advanced medical groups and integrated delivery systems, finalizing new regulations in November and beginning a measurement period January is not adequate time for retooling systems.

“AMGA members are investing in the people and technology to succeed in a risk-based payment system. They are committed to transitioning to a healthcare system that recognizes and rewards the value of the care they provide on a daily basis. That CMS appears to be taking their concerns seriously indicates a willingness to partner with the provider community and bodes well for MACRA’s success.

“AMGA also recognizes that providers are at different stages of readiness. We believe a voluntary start date in January would provide flexibility to the provider community so they can begin reporting as soon as they are ready,” Fisher said.
