Allscripts Leads EMR Abandonment Trend At Practice Fusion

In the “Year of the EMR Switch”,  data shows one in four new EMR users is replacing an existing system, with nearly one quarter switching from Allscripts and 61 percent from server-based EMRs

As 17 percent of medical providers begin making plans to leave their current electronic medical record (EMR) systems, trend data indicates that the largest number of doctors are leaving the EMR company Allscripts. Allscripts announced discontinuation of their MyWay EMR last year, which was largely used by smaller ambulatory practices.

Switching trend data was researched by Practice Fusion, the largest physician-patient platform, which now sees one in four new users joining from an existing EMR system.  An indication of growing demand for web-based EMR technology, all five of the EMRs leading the switching are predominantly server-based.

Black Book Rankings’s 2013 State of the Ambulatory Electronic Health Records Replacement Market report found that more than one in six EMR users are planning to switch in the coming year. 84% of these respondents said vendor viability was a ‘must have’ with any new EMR, indicating that many of the 485 EMRs surveyed are unable to adapt to evolving federal EMR requirements or, like Allscripts, are ending support for their products.

Key facts:
