Intelerad Set To Expand Clinical Decision Support Offerings

Toronto-based group will develop solutions that provide key data and analytics to radiology staff

Intelerad Medical Systems, a leader in medical imaging PACS, RIS and workflow solutions, recently announced the formation of a new Clinical Decision Support (CDS) Group. The Toronto-based group is made up of developers who will focus on adding evidence-based decision support and data mining features to Intelerad’s solution portfolio.

“With dozens, even hundreds, of radiologists using a single Intelerad system across distributed networks and geographies, there are significant opportunities to adaptively optimize productivity and utilization,” said Rick Rubin, Intelerad’s Chief Engineering Officer. “Our CDS group will address our clients’ challenges by developing technology that provides decision support, automation and transparency to the processes used to manage radiology services in large-scale organizations.”

As part of their mandate, Intelerad’s CDS Group will develop solutions that not only benefit radiologists, but all medical imaging professionals:

  • For radiologists, the CDS Group will work on the integration of intelligent worklists to optimally balance reading demand with reading capabilities across the enterprise. They will also work on decision support tools that leverage report data mining to improve patient outcomes, compliance, and reimbursements while reducing litigation risk.
  • For support staff (department managers, PACS admins, quality managers, etc.), the CDS Group will work on the development of real-time dashboards, data visualization and analytics to support continuous improvement initiatives.

“The mandate of the CDS Group is to deliver efficiency to the stakeholders being served by Intelerad’s solutions or relying on their services,” said Frederic Lachmann, Vice-President of Intelerad’s CDS Group. “Ultimately, our goal is to improve patient outcomes by walking the analytics continuum from descriptive to predictive to prescriptive analytics, and developing decision models that can be integrated into Intelerad solutions. Such tools will not only strengthen the bonds between radiologist and clinician, it should create opportunities for Intelerad to grow beyond just imaging.”
